On the heels of the White House exercising authorities to declare a national response to the coronavirus and President Trump asking all hospitals to activate its emergency preparedness plan, local hospitals are working to help protect patients and staff from potential infection while continuing to provide healthcare services to their communities.

The Fisher and Stonewall hospital districts, their respective clinics, Gibson Care Center in Stonewall Co. and Heritage House in Fisher Co. are partnering with Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Texas Hospital Association (THA) and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.

Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses, which cause a variety of illnesses ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a new strain not previously identified in humans.
