Roby CISD Teacher Spotlight

Mr. Brian Lummus has been teaching for 13 years, and this is his 4th year at Roby CISD teaching computer technology, fourth grade social studies, leadership, and career exploration. In the pictures, Mr. Lummus took his social studies class to the Frontier Museum in Abilene.

Local School Districts prepare for District One Act Play Competition

Tricia Spikes named Counselor of the Year

Tricia Spikes, of Rotan was named as the Region 14 Educational Service Center K-12 Counselor of the Year. ESC 14 includes 42 ISD’s across 14 counties in the Big Country. 3 other area counselors were recognized for similar honors serving single level campuses.

Mrs. Spikes was nominated by Juan Rios, Trent ISD Principal. She has served in the capacity of counselor for the Rotan, Snyder and Trent school districts.

Roby CISD Teacher Spotlights

Ms. Tanya Upshaw has been teaching Kindergarten for 30 years overall with 28 years at Roby CISD. This experiment taught her students the importance of the protective layer of blubber that penguins have to keep them warm in the extreme Antarctic temperatures. Ms. Upshaw, thank you for all you do for the students at Roby Elementary.

Smoke from re-ignited house fire causes issues at school

As high winds moved through the area last week, thick smoke from burning debris left by a house that burned more than a year ago was pushed downhill and into the Rotan ISD school buildings.

While the smoke made for a less than perfect teaching environment, there were no major interruptions to classes, although there were numerous reports of allergen reactions, mild breathing issues, and eye irritations due to the foul-smelling vapor.

Morris eases into superintendent role

Aspermont ISD Board of Trustees met earlier this week in regular session, marking the first time the board has convened since Superintendent Zach Morris was officially named Superintendent earlier this month.

Morris is happy to report that the recent stock show received several positive comments due to how well organized, how family oriented and well attended the show was. He went on to express his appreciation for all of the community support and asked the trustees to please pass his compliments on.
