JANEYL BECK

 

JANEYL BECK, was born January 9, 1917, to Alice Alfreda Graves Alsup (deceased 1965) and Jospeh D. Alsup (deceased 1967). Mrs. Beck died October 26, 2015, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Mrs. Beck lived in Sylvester, Texas, for 78 years and was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years James B. Beck of Sylvester, Texas.

Mrs. Beck was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church including the churches at Roby and Sylvester. She particularly enjoyed teaching and attending Sunday School, singing in the choir, and garden club activities. Her Walk to Emmaus was a blessing to her.

GILBERT LEE BROWN, 58, passed away Friday, September 18, 2015, at his home in Lubbock. Graveside Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2015, at Roby Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.

BUDDY WALDON

BUDDY WALDON, 65, went to be with the Lord September 30, 2015 in San Angelo, Texas. Buddy was born September 28, 1950 to William (Dub) & Lenora Waldon. He resided in Roby, Texas where he raised his children, owned Buddy’s Auto, and was a friend to all who knew him.

Buddy is survived by son Shelton Waldon and daughters Hailey & Hanna; son Josh & wife Melissa Waldon and children Mackenzie and Kaden; daughter Chrissie & husband Dustin Ratliff and daughter Lacy Ratliff; Vicki Hardin and Ashley Cline. Buddy is preceded in death by his parents Dub & Lenora Waldon.

Joanne Marie (Logan) Young

 

Joanne Marie (Logan) Young, 84, was called home to be with the Lord on September 24, 2015.  Joanne was born on July 20, 1931, in Rhome, Texas, to Harry H. and Marie Fergason Logan.

   Joanne grew up in Wise County, Texas, near the small town of Rhome. As the children of a family of farmers and ranchers, Joanne and her two younger brothers helped with the chickens and livestock, farming and harvest. Joanne enjoyed being in the kitchen with her mother, helping to prepare meals for the men who worked from sun-up to sundown. They rode the school bus each day to the Rhome School, and regularly congregated at the home of their “Grannie” Logan after Sunday church services, along with uncles and cousins.

John Paul Young

 

John Paul Young, 83, was called home to be with the Lord on September 20, 2015. John was born on December 30, 1932, in Rotan, Texas, to John M. and Juanita Whitmore Young.

    Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at the Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following at Belvieu Cemetery in Rotan, directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.

James (Jim) Lanier Heathington

 

ELBOW LAKE, MINNESOTA - James (Jim) Lanier Heathington died on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, of complications following recent stomach surgery, and a bi-lateral lung transplant nearly five years ago. The funeral service will be Friday, September 11, 1:30 viewing and 2:00 service, graveside only at First Lutheran Church Cemetery, Battle Lake.

   He was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1947 in a small town called Rotan, near Abilene in West Central Texas. He graduated McMurray University in Abilene in 1969 and went on to coach football and other sports in towns and cities all over Texas. While the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Comanche, TX he took his team from 0 and 10 to a district bi-championship.

ROTAN- DOLORES (GONZALEZ) MONTEZ, 93, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2015, in Rotan, Texas. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial following at Belvieu Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2015, at the Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home Chapel. Born April 9, 1922, in Mexico, Dolores was the daughter of Lorenzo and Ursula (Gonzales) Ortiz. She married the love of her life, Manuel Montez, in Gregory, Texas, on June 9, 1940. A resident of Rotan since 1945, Dolores was a homemaker, and an excellent cook. She was known by many for her delicious tamales. In her spare time, Dolores enjoyed quilting, cooking, flower and vegetable gardening, raising her goats and chickens, and loving on hers grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

ROBY- PAUL EDWIN NAY, 79, passed away Monday, August 31, 2015, in Rotan. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at the First Baptist Church of Roby, directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home, and from 4:00-9:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2015, at Sunset Funeral Home in El Paso. Born April 17, 1936, in Dodge City, Kansas, Paul was the son of Daniel Clayton and Viola (Shoemate) Nay. He graduated from El Paso High School in 1954, and from El Paso Community College with a degree in Fire Technology. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. On October 18, 1958, he married the love of his life, Joan Ann Friedrich, in Nyack, New York. The couple settled in El Paso, where Paul worked for the El Paso Fire Department from 1960 until 1983, and as an Arson Investigator for the New Mexico Fire Marshal’s Office from 1983 until 1998.
