Golfers scramble in high winds over weekend

Last Saturday, the Fisher County Scramble Golf Tournament was a success, despite the high winds that tore through the Big Country over the weekend.

The Fisher County Chamber of Commerce sponsored the four-man scramble, and event coordinator, Randy Hodges, said it was the first time he had a chance to play golf since October. He said between his lack of recent T-times and the high winds, it made for a brutal day. However, the good company of fellow golfers and competitive play made up for the weather and lack of practice.

“It was amazing, even though we had to battle the 40-mile an hour wind,” said Hodges.

While storm systems that pushed down from the Rockies and across the nation over the weekend brought snow to Midwest and flooding to much of the South, in Rotan it just sent wind, and lots of it. The metal signs that advertised the golf tournament were bent, broken, or simply removed by high winds.
