Roby Lions stay strong dispite injuries and loss against Roscoe

The Lady Lions went to Nazareth to play their tournament. They beat Slaton 61-42 in the first game, lost to Nazareth in game two 29-51, beat Friona 69-46 and lost to Muleshoe 37-49. The Muleshoe game took a toll on the Lady Lions, as four girls sustained injuries; Hallie Edmondson, Emily Branson, Lucy Alls; and Kaylee Weaver all suffered injuries in the game.

LJ.pon returning to Roby, the Lady Lions and Lions played Roscoe, losing all three games. The J.V. girls lost 26-37. The Plowgirls went up 5-12 in the first period. The Lady Lions fought back and were trailing by one point at the half; but the Plowgirls would outscore them 23 points to 13 points in the second half. Katie Campa led the Ladies with 12 points. Others scoring for the Lady Lions were Harlee McGlothlin 7, McKenzie Subia 6, and Kayden Harris 1.

Aspermont takes on Westbrook and wins!

After winning the Guthrie tournament last weekend, the Lady Hornets basketball team hosted the Westbrook Wildcats this past Tuesday night and won in decisive fashion.

The 1st quarter began with the Hornets furiously putting in basket after basket. Kenadee Shuggart, high point for the night, began her shooting spree making 8 points. Another outstanding player was Sadie Gentry, putting in 9 points of her own during the quarter. The score at the end of the 1st was 25-13 Aspermont.

Hornet fall to McLean in the Area Championship Game

The Aspermont Hornets came up short last Friday night in the Area Championship title game against the McLean Tigers. The Hornets would start the game with a turnover on the opening kickoff and played catch up the rest of the way. The Hornets would put up a fight against the #1 ranked Tigers taking them to the 4th quarter before the mercy rule was called ending the game and the swarms season 86-38.

Roby Lions take on the Munday Mogules winning 1 out of 3 games

Roby went to Munday; losing two of three contest in down to the wire games. The J.V. girls were lead in scoring by Brynlie Johnson with 12 points and Hilda Gutierrez in rebounds with 7: others scoring were MacKenzie Subia and Katie Campa with 4 points apiece, Hilda Gutierrez and Kayden Harris with 2 points each and Harlee McGl_othlin with 1 point.

The Varsity girls came out strong and lead 24-15 at the half, increasing their lead in the second half to win 47-29. Hallie Edmonson had 17 points and Lucy Alls had 9 rebounds to lead the Lady Lions. Emily Branson was also in double figures with 14 points, Berkley Johnson and Kaylee Weaver both contributed 6 points.

Rotan ISD honors cross-country

The Rotan School Board took time to recognize the Rotan’s eightmember boys/girls crosscountry team Monday night, spotlighting the athletes’ achievements and dedication to hard work.

On the boys side at the district meet, the entire team qualified for regionals with Riley Elrod, Gaberial Daniel, and Koy Bell picked up first, second and third places. Johnny Lujan came in sixth, Max Perales was eleventh, followed by Jorge Perales at twelfth.

Hornets bring home the Bi-District Championship Title

The Aspermont Hornets landed in Guthrie last Friday night for a match up against the Paducah Dragons for the Bi-District Championship.

The Hornets would benefit from the coin toss and wasted no time in showcasing one of the states best ground games, with Soph RB Chris Mendez breaking a huge gain and Jr RB Rowdy Bradley cashing in on the next play, it was 6-0 with just a few ticks off the clock. Paducah had confidence in their ground game as well and traded shots for the rest of a fast and furious 1st quarter with the score being 30-21 Hornets when it ended.

In the 2nd quarter it would be about a swarming Hornet defense with 4 consecutive stops of the potent Dragon offense, a Clayton Martin interception, numerous big hits and sacks, and a goal line stance to end the quarter. With the Hornet offense scoring 3 more times in the quarter, the score at halftime was 52-21 in the Hornets favor.

Roby Basketball Teams fall short against Hermleigh

It was a tough week for Roby basketball. The Lady Lions traveled to Jayton and Hermleigh, losing both games. The Jayton game saw the Lady Lions go down 17-24 at half. They cut the lead to 3 at the end of the 3rd period and tied it up with a 3 point shot with 6:13 remaining in the game, but the Lady Jaybirds would win the game 40-37. Hallie Edmonson and Emily Branson lead the Lady Lions with 10 points each; others scoring for the Lady Lions were Berkley Johnson 9, Kaylee Weaver 6, and Lucy Alls '2. Hallie Edmonson also led the team with 10 rebounds.

Lady Hornets capture an easy win over the Lady Dragons.

The Aspermont Lady Hornets began their basketball season last Tuesday night and hosted the Paducah Dragons. The Lady Hornets came out strong and sent the message that it will not be easy to defeat them.

The 1st quarter started off a little rusty, however it didn't take long for the Lady Hornets to dominate their opponent as the time ticked on to the 2nd quarter. The 1st quarter score was 11-9, Aspermont.

Aspermont Hornet head to Bi-District Play-off game Friday

The Aspermont Hornets will gear up and head to Guthrie where they will be the visiting team in a bi district playoff matchup with the Paducah Dragons. The Dragons have been an up and down team this season, but seem to have it rolling as they are district champs and #14 In state. The Hornets however are #11 in state and are coming off a much needed and perfectly timed off (bye) week.

Girls basketball kicks off this week

The Roby Lady Lions and the Rotan Lady Yellowhammers each had their first basketball game of season this week, while the Aspermont Lady Hornets’ season opener is scheduled for Saturday. The Lady Lions won Tuesday night’s nonconference game against Blackwell with a score of 60 – 55. The next game for the Lady Lions is home game, scheduled for Saturday when they face off against the Anson Lady Tigers at 5:00 p.m.
