Forget the triple digit temperature, there’s 18 holes to go

After a two day battle against the heat, wind, and each other, the annual 4th of July Golf Tournament concluded Monday afternoon, leaving the victors with a little cash in their pocket.

The tournament kicked off Sunday afternoon at the Rotan Golf course. An unprecedented 17 teams played for a little slice of cash prizes but mostly for bragging rights. Over the span of the two days the teams struggled against high winds and dehydration, boiling the 3 flights down into 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.

Lady Lions are State bound!

ROBY, TX – The Lady Lions will be heading to San Antonio for the State Championship Tournament at the Alamodome. Game 1 for the Lions will be against the Lipan Indians and is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday.

Coach Fisher has been scheduling early morning practices beginning at 6:45 in the morning in the hopes his team will be better adjusted for the 10 a.m. start time for the tournament opener. When asked about how the early morning practices were treating them, the team responded with simultaneous groans. However, despite the early practices and the long hours of hard work, the girls are more excited to get back to the game than struggling with nerves and anxieties. They just want to get out there and have fun playing the game they love.

Congratulations Lady Lions on your 50 to 41 Victory against May!

“In order to succeed, we must first believe that we can” - Nikos Kazantzakis. If you don’t already know the Roby Lady Lions came out on top being 14-0 in district this year. Headed to the playoffs with 12 players, 1 coach, and the state tournament on our mind, we’re preparing for anything and everything.

This year we have faced some major adversity with two of our post players having to set out due to injuries. Our coach, Shannon Fisher, says that great teams must face some type of adversity. Now, both players are back on the court, and we’re ready for some vengeance.

The Lady Yellowhammer Volleyball Team traveled to Vernon Tuesday night to play Miami for the Bi-district Championship. Rotan took the Warriors in the first game 23-17, but lost the 2nd. They came back to win the 3rd, and ended the game winning the 4th set 23-17. “We played really well in three of the four games. We had good serves and we rallied well. Better movement and floor placement. Second game we had trouble with serves and getting the ball back over. One mistake turned into four pretty quick. But games 3 & 4 looked good. I’m proud of them.  It was great effort,” said Coach Ann Reed.

The Rotan Yellowhammers traveled to Throckmorton to face the defending District 2 Greyhound champions Friday night. The meeting was hard fought, but despite some questionable calls from the officials, the Hammers were able to stay strong. Their defense was hard-hitting and the offense went the distance earning the win over the Greyhounds.

Lions Fall to Winters

The Roby Lions got off to a quick start last Friday night in Winters, but big plays from the Blizzard and Lion mistakes dropped them to 0-6 on the season.

Roby fans had plenty to cheer about early, as senior Braeden Groat picked off a Blizzard pass on Winters’ third play from scrimmage, returning it to the Roby 42. While the Lions were unable to muster a first down, an Andrew Benevides punt pinned Winters near its own goal line at the 3.

A bittersweet week for the LadyYellowhammers

Coming off a victory against Loraine earlier in the week, the Lady Yellowhammers were fired up going into the game against the Plains Cowgirls. It was a back and fourth slugfest from beginning to end for ladies on both sides of the net as Plains won the first set 23-25. Rotan came back with a vengeance, taking the next 2 consecutive sets with the score being 25-18 in the 2nd set and 25-13 in the 3rd.
