Dear Editor and Citizens of Fisher County:

Body

I have been apprised of recent postings on Facebook detrimental and critical of our Law Enforcement personnel. Let me preface this statement by stating that I do not use Facebook and it has been to be a distraction and largely a time-waster, and the last thing I need is to spend time seeing what certain people are posting.

For those who are critical of me, I have no problem speaking to you face to face so that your concerns may be addressed. So for those who insist on playing the keyboard warrior and FB lawyer, you are wasting your time, as I will never see it. Water off a duck’s back to use an old saying. I do, however, take umbrage with those who, while hiding behind their keyboard, continue to be so harshly critical of the Office as a whole, and continue to disparage my deputies. As some of you know, we have recently hired a third Deputy, and when I attend Academy in November, I can hopefully recruit one or two more to make us fully staffed and alleviate the staffing shortage we have had since my appointment. I am not writing this to give you excuses, nor am I attempting to justify myself. I will simply say that if the keyboard warriors actually knew of the disarray and bad practices found from previous staff, you might cut my guys some slack.

We work as a team to enforce the law, to provide services demanded of us from our communities, and still attempt to do so with a smile. We work for you, the citizens of Fisher County, even those who can’t seem to exist without criticism of everything, or those who launch into tirades about “problems” that they are woefully uninformed about. My deputies have given so much, and by and large are unappreciated for what they do and have done to get this Office back on a lawful and firm track.

I stand with these fine people who have dedicated so much to represent and protect you, the law abiding folks of this county. I will be happy to talk with any who want to address concerns, but come in, please, with an open mind, not filled with the garbage of social media. For those who are interested, I will call things as I see them.

Much like the President pointing out ‘Fake News’, I will support and defend my deputies from those who deem opinion more important than actual facts.

If you want to know more and be apprised of factual matters, my door will be open to you. In this highly charged world of social media, I know there will be those who will criticize whatever I say, but just be aware, I will never see it, so don’t waste your time or mine. This Office will run as efficiently and as above board as we can be. I thank you for your indulgence in reading this.

Kind Regards, Sheriff Pat Dickson
