THE CORSICANA LEGEND OF ROPE WALKER

The legend: In 1884 a man with a wooden leg carrying a cast iron cook stove was trying to cross a tightrope stretched between two buildings in downtown Corsicana when he lost his balance and fell, suffering painful injuries. Near death he mentioned he was a Jew. A Jewish merchant was summoned and prayed with the crippled acrobat. He later died and was buried in the Hebrew cemetery in Corsicana....
