Celia (née Martinez) Galvan, 89, of Austin died peacefully at home on Monday, October 24, 2022, with the support of Enhabit Hospice. Even though she lived in Austin for more than 60 years, she always considered herself “a country girl from Rotan, TX.” She was born in August 1933, in Kent County, TX to Manuel and Julia (née Macias) Martinez from Rotan, TX, and Durango, Mexico, respectively. She was the first-born granddaughter of Anastacia (née Balderrama) and Federico “Fred Sr.” Martinez, both of Satevo, Chihuahua, Mexico.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, and her husband of 38 years Eustacio (E.A.) Galvan of San Benito, TX. She is also preceded in death by her son, Emilio, and her brother, John.
She is survived by her children Celina, Edmundo (Brandi), and Eugenio of Austin, and Eduardo of Ann Arbor, MI. She is survived by her grandchildren, the joys of her life Andres, Adelina, Amarissa, Alonzo, and Amaya. Also surviving are her brothers Gilbert (Louise) Martinez, Ramiro (VerNell) Martinez, and Charles (Diane) Velleca, and her only sister Mary Hamm; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and the siblings (and spouses) of her late husband.
A Mass was held Friday, October 28, 2022 at St. Austin Catholic Church. Burial was at Assumption Cemetery in Austin.
