Bertha Lucille Ratliff, Warren, Johnson, 91, passed away Monday, December 5, 2022 at Legacy Oaks of Azle, Memory Care, Azle, TX. She was preceded in death by her husbands: Wayne Warren and Merrell Johnson, her parents: AD and Jewel Ratliff, a son: Barton Keith Warren, a grandson: Kenneth Cross, her sisters: Viola Brazee and Dorthy McCain and brothers: Marvin, Max, Bill and Bob Ratliff. Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson, formerly of Fisher County in the Claytonville/Capitola farming community will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday December 8, 2022 with visitation that morning from 9:00-10:00 A.M. with services following visitation. The services will be held in the Azle Land Chapel located at 850 N. Cardinal Road, Azle, TX. with her son Rev. Paul Warren officiating. Interment will be in the Hobbs, TX Cemetery, Hobbs, TX at 1:00 P.M. the following day Friday December 9, 2022. She was a long-time member of the Lamar Street Baptist Church in Sweetwater, TX.
Bertha married Wayne Warren, December 13, 1947 in Sweetwater, TX. Bertha and Wayne raised four boys, Steve, Gill, Bart and Paul in the Claytonville community. Bertha was a songwriter, poet, painter and a member of the Sweetwater and Rotan theaters as well as publishing award-winning poetry and receiving numerous awards for acting. Her green thumb could grow anything. Bertha and Wayne lived on the farm in the Claytonville area until his death June 10, 1994. She married Merrill Johnson May 26th, 1997 in Tennah, TX. She and Merrell continued living on the farm in Claytonville until they relocated to Springtown, TX in 2016. Merrell passed away October 28, 2019. In November of 2019 Bertha moved to Legacy Oaks of Azle, an assisted living facility and then into the Memory Care apartments where she passed peacefully on Monday night. Berthaissurvivedbyherthreesons and their wives, Steve and Tachi, Springtown, TX, Gill and Dianne, Springtown TX, Paul and Sheila, Mansfield, LA and step-daughter Tomi Young of Winnie, TX. Along with 12 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by two siblings, Paula LaSue Dulin, of Buffalo Gap, TX and Richard Ratliff of Melissa, TX.
