I’m sure many of you noticed that last week’s 'Letter to the Editor' did not include a signature. I know this because I immediately started receiving emails, phone calls, and text messages about it after the edition hit the stands and inboxes.
One particularly unhappy caller was my mother, who contacted me while on her way to Lubbock, asking why I would publish a letter without a signature. After she allowed me to respond, I explained that it was unintentional. I would never print a Letter to the Editor without the author’s signature. We are not the New York Times.
In my haste to meet the printing deadline, which was already more than two hours overdue, I accidentally cut off the signature while rearranging the columns and articles. For the record, the delay wasn’t my fault—I'll just let that thought sit with us for a moment.
Also, there will be an Editorial in next week's edition. I was not about to miss our deadline like we did last week and this will give him time to sharpen his pen and gather his thoughts and attend the Rotan City Council meeting in the morning at 7am. Which, is a ridiculous time to have a city council meeting in my opinion. But, I guess that is one way to make it as inconvienent as possible for citizens to show up and disrupt all the 'progress' this town has made in the last 16 years. How about a petition to get that changed citizens of Rotan?
Anyway, last week's letter was written and submitted by Spence Cates from Sweetwater, Texas.
