In Loving Memory
SEPTEMBER 20, 1941 - SEPTEMBER 20, 2025 Sylvia Geraldine (Deana) Mitchell, 84, passed away on September 20, 2025, in Jayton, Texas. She was born on January 15, 1941, in Knox County, Texas, to Aloyious Herman “Lush” Jungman and Ollie Katherine (Pearce) Jungman, arriving just five minutes ahead of her twin brother, Jerry. She loved to tease Jerry that she was the oldest and therefore was the boss.
Deana was a proud graduate of Aspermont ISD and Abilene Christian University. She dedicated much of her career to education, teaching elementary students at Aspermont ISD for many years. She also taught junior high Industrial Arts for one year. Outside of the classroom, She enjoyed reading and dancing, hobbies that brought her joy throughout her life. Deana also loved spending time with her children and family and was known for being a wonderful cook.
She was preceded in death by her parents; the love of her life and father of her boys, Jack Mitchell; her twin brother, A. Jerry Jungman; her sister, Linda Jungman Swink; and a nephew, Ned Swink.
Deana is survived by her two sons, Mitch (Michelle) Mitchell and Ike Mitchell, both of Swenson; her sister, Sybil (Joe) Jungman Voss of Old Glory; one nephew, Jack Hawkins of Breckenridge; three nieces, Jan Harris of Old Glory, Julie (Garry) Hull of Stanton, and Kala Swink Straub of Aspermont; a bonus niece, Julie (Scott) Moorhead of Clyde; and a bonus nephew, Monty Mitchell of Jacksboro; numerous great-nieces; great-nephews; extended family; and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 21, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. at Giles McCoy Funeral Home in Aspermont, Texas. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 22, at 10:00 a.m. at Swenson Baptist Church in Swenson, Texas, with Jeff Sedberry officiating. Services are under the direction of Giles-McCoy Funeral Home, Aspermont.
