Salvador “Sal” Hernandez

Body

APRIL 27, 1944 - DECEMBER 27, 2025

Salvador “Sal” Hernandez, age 81, joined the love of his life on December 27th, 2025, when he passed away at his home in Lubbock, Texas. He was surrounded by lots of love from his great-grandchildren, his granddaughter, daughter and son in-law. Sunlight was shining on his face as he left this earth.

Sal is survived by his daughter Cecilia Hernandez Yanez; one son Joseph Hernandez and spouse Frances; two granddaughters, Alexis Mejia and spouse Marcos and Antonia Hernandez and spouse Samir Alazawe. Also, two sisters, Lucy and Lupe and one brother, Raymond.

He married Fermina (Minnie) Gauna in 1963. They moved to Rotan in 1969 where he worked as the “Butcher” at Thriftway. Sal would special cut meats at the customer’s request. His bar-b-que is still remembered by many. Sal became a pillar in the community of Rotan, giving many a chance to “work in the market”, serving Rotan customers always with a smile and a kind word. He was the kindest person you would ever know. After his retirement, Sal enjoyed growing a trio of different grapes, making jelly and bottling wine. Sal enjoyed hunting and fishing, cracking pecans and baking. He will be truly missed!
