Shirley Ann Hulsey Perkins, age 87, passed away on August 9th in her home in Midland, Texas.

Shirley was born March 22, 1938 in Aspermont, Stonewall County, Texas to Thomas Monroe “Slim” Hulsey, Sr. and Mary Adella “Della” Hulsey.

She attended school at Aspermont, graduating in 1956, While in school she was very active in sports. She was Captain of the Basketball team in Aspermont; winning several ribbons and awards. Shirley remained close to her classmates and helped to organize her class reunions. She was honored as Coming Home Queen at Aspermont in 1991.

Shirley began her career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after graduation from high school in 1956 and remained with them until her retirement in 1991.

While employed she received many awards and special recognition for various accomplishments. She was very active in the Southwestern Bell Pioneers Volunteer organization and was Chairman of their major fund – raiser for many years. Shirley was an avid bowler for many years and won countless trophies and plaques. In her later years she loved to travel and she and her husband Sam traveled all over the world. Shirley’s pride and joy was her daughter, Kenda and granddaughters Lynzi & Madison.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Kenda Rene’ Belardo and her husband Steve and their children Lynzi Paige Furman and Madison Elizabeth Furman. Her step-son Cole Perkins, his wife Paulette, their children Dayna and her husband Eric Florance, their children Mackenzie and Lucas. Also Cole & Paulette’s son Casey, his wife Sarah and their children Grace, Elanor “Ele”, Anamarie and William Cole. Shirley’s step-daughter Patsy and her husband Mike Brenner. Their children Neal Brenner, Tracy and Chas Westbrook, their children Jaetyn & Kennedy Hicks. Patsy & Mike’s son John and his wife Jayce Brenner and their daughter Josie Brenner. She is also survived by her two sister-inlaws; Opal Hulsey, (J Carl) Aspermont and Ila Hulsey, (Brad) San Antonio, Texas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sam Perkins; her only sister, Dorothy “Dot” Bookman, as well as her four brothers; Thomas Monroe “Bud” Hulsey, Brad Hulsey, J.T. Hulsey and J. Carl Hulsey.

A visitation was held Thursday, August 14th from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Giles-McCoy Funeral Home. Graveside services were held on August 15th at 10:00 a.m. at the Aspermont Cemetery under the direction of Giles-McCoy Funeral Home, Aspermont.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked to honor a Memorial donation to Make-A-Wish Foundation, this organization was very near and dear to Shirley.

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Shylesh Ganta, her long time physician and Dr. Aaron Stike for their expert care. They would also like to give the biggest thanks ever to the staff of Home Instead of Midland who has assisted with her care for the past two years and also, most recently the assistance of Hospice of Midland.

The nurses and caregivers of these two organizations went over the top to provide Shirley comfort and care.
