Zulema Velez Gattis, age 78, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, May 21 2025, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Georgia.
Ms. Gattis was born on February 23, 1947, the daughter of Esteban & Maria Velez.
Her survivors include: One daughter: Cheri ( Robert Batten) Bennett of Douglas, GA, one grandson; Skyler Batten of Douglas, GA, one brother; Joe Edward (Kela) Velez of Arlington, TX, five sisters; Zita Carrasco of Odessa, TX, America Yanez of Rotan, TX, Argentina (Luther) Yanez of Rotan, TX, China Silvia of Kansas City, TX, and Carrolina (John) Tweedy of Emerald Isles, N.C., along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by; husband; Jerry L Gattis, father; Stephen Velez, mother; Maria Velez, three brothers, Richard Velez, Esteban Jr. Velez, and Madrid Velez, and two sisters; Maria Gaytan, and Virginia Carr.
Zulema was known as Sue or Susy most of her life. Her family was most important in her life. She was the oldest of the eight sisters and helped to support the family. She took very well to the southern life of Georgia, where she went with her husband. Sue was a dependable faithful member of Iron Road Church.
Her grandson Skyler was the light of her life, giving him her love and affection generously.
Her remaining younger sisters will miss her greatly, as she always stayed in touch with them. Your sisters will always love and miss you, sister.
