Speak Up and Shape the Future This Election Season!

With election season quickly approaching, the Double Mountain Chronicle (DMC) is calling on voters to get involved by submitting their questions for candidates running for local office. As the Fisher and Stonewall County elections heat up, the newspaper is offering an opportunity for the community to voice its concerns and ask important questions directly to those vying for public office. Voters are encouraged to submit their questions via email to editor@dmchronicle.com or publisher@dmchronicle.com, and selected questions will be posed to candidates in the weeks leading up to the election.

While the Fisher County Hospital District Board of Directors canceled its November election due to a lack of candidate participation, other local races are shaping up to be more competitive. The Roby CISD Board of Trustees will hold a contested election for three trustee seats, with incumbents Danny Carrion, Chris Estes, and Carter Edmondson facing newcomer Brent Whitfield.

This presents a chance for voters to influence the future leadership of the school district.

Similarly, Rotan ISD's election promises new faces, as four seats are up for grabs. Incumbents Klay McWilliams and Monica Carrillo are running, along with candidates Ruple Weems, Jeff Stanley, Scott Spruill, David Mullins, and Joel Clary. The absence of Matt Preston and Frankie Gonzalez, who opted not to seek re-election, guarantees a change in the board’s composition.

In Stonewall County, the race for Precinct 3 Commissioner will see incumbent Billy Kirk Meador (D) facing challenger Ike Mitchell (R).

Meanwhile, in Fisher County, voters face an unusual situation regarding the sheriff’s race. Former Sheriff Simon Wade will be on the ballot as a candidate, despite resigning earlier in the year after eligibility concerns arose. Interim Sheriff Tom Pohlman, appointed in March, will compete as a write-in candidate against Wade.

With early voting set to begin on October 21 and Election Day scheduled for November 5, the DMC encourages the community to engage with the candidates and ensure their voices are heard. The DMC will be compiling questions to share with candidates as part of its election coverage, making this a valuable opportunity for voters to gain insights into the platforms and policies of those seeking office.

Whether your concerns involve local law enforcement, education, or other community issues, this is your chance to contribute. Send in your questions and help shape the conversation as Fisher and Stonewall Counties head to the polls.
