Two arrested during busy night in Fisher County

It was a busy start to the week for local law enforcement. Between responding to calls of suspicious persons, wild dogs in McCaulley, a vehicle vs. deer accident on Hwy 180, officers responded to reports of shots fired in Rotan and a routine traffic stop turned into a high-speed chase through the streets of Roby, both of which resulted in arrests.

Fisher County Chief Deputy said it was an unusually busy day for local law enforcement and took the time to report on the events earlier this week.

On Sunday, November 15, at approximately 5:30 p.m. The Fisher County Sheriff’s Office received a call that a male subject in a white van was following another vehicle and pointing a firearm out the driver’s window shooting at the victim’s vehicle. The suspect was identified as Juan Trejo of Rotan.

Deputy Renee Jones responded to the suspect’s last known location and located the suspect’s vehicle. Deputy Jones initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle in a safe area and waited for additional units to arrive. Once another deputy got on scene, Trejo was safely removed from the vehicle and detained.

A consensual search of the vehicle uncovered a black metal BB gun — which had a very similar appearance to a firearm — as well as drug paraphernalia. The victim advised that Trejo had threatened to kill her minutes before the chase began and that she believed Trejo was trying to kill her by shooting her with the gun that appeared real to her at the time.

Trejo was placed under arrest for aggravated assault family violence and transported to jail. No injuries were sustained by the victim or by Trejo.

At 8:55 p.m., State Game Warden George Paisley was approaching the intersection of Hwy 70 and Hwy 180 in Roby when he saw a pickup run the red light. Paisley turned on his lights to make the traffic stop. The vehicle’s turn signal came on and the truck made a right turn onto a side street and accelerated away.

The vehicle — driven by Brian Lee McQueen (34) of Sweetwater — zigzagged through numerous Roby city streets, crossing Hwy 70 twice and once sped across Hwy 180. McQueen repeatedly turned off his lights in an attempt to evade detection during several maneuvers and tossed several unknown items from the vehicle during the pursuit. McQueen again turned onto Hwy

McQueen again turned onto Hwy 70 in drove north toward Rotan at a high rate of speed. The vehicle later turned into the parking lot at the Rotan Gin just inside the Rotan City Limits where McQueen spun a donut in the gravel and reversed his course south toward Roby.

Fisher County Deputies Matt McKay and Conner Hardin gave assistance and deployed spike strips on Hwy 70 just north of Roby. McQueen drove over the spikes, blowing his tires, and after being blocked in by Fisher County Deputy Renee Jones — who was returning from the jail after arresting Trejo — McQueen exited the vehicle and ran through the junkyard on the north end of city outskirts.

After leading officers on a brief foot chase through several residential properties, McQueen was arrested charged with felony evading with a vehicle, driving on an invalid license, and a DWI. McQueen was only recently released from the Nolan County Jail in June, where he was also serving a sentence for a felony evading with a vehicle charge.

Both Trejo and McQueen remained in custody at the time of publication.
