Fisher County Deputies searched for David Loving for around three hours on Monday, but high winds made it challenging for dogs to locate his scent, and officers believe Loving escaped the area and remains at large.
For the past several weeks, the Fisher County Sheriff’s Department has been searching for individuals in the county with outstanding warrants. The sheriff’s department asked for assistance in locating one of those individuals on Monday.
At around 1 p.m. on Monday afternoon, Fisher County Deputy Josh Benavides located one of the suspects, David Loving, near a residence along the 400 block of Harrison Ave. in Rotan. Officers were looking to serve a warrant based on the State’s motion to revoke Loving’s probation for an earlier burglary conviction.
The Fisher County Grand Jury handed down an indictment in September 2022 that accused Loving of burglarizing the Rotan ISD campus buildings during its renovation and construction for the purpose of stealing miscellaneous tools and equipment. Loving pleaded guilty to the burglary charge just before his trial date, which was set for January 2023.
Benavides approached Loving, who fled around the back of the house and into the surrounding vegetation. Additional officers were called to the scene, the area was blocked, and residents were asked to stay away from the area and be on the lookout for Loving.
Deputies, along with the assistance of the State Game Warden Officers and K-9 units searched the area for roughly two hours. Facing strong sustained winds with gusts over 50 mph, the foul weather made search conditions challenging for the dogs to latch onto a scent.
Although searching around residences, surrounding buildings, and through vegetation, Loving was able to escape the area. Officers concluded the search at around 4 p.m. A blue vehicle was seen leaving the area, which later was discovered to belong to someone from the metroplex and is not believed to be involved in a crime.
If the State is successful in arguing its motion to revoke, Loving could be facing up to two years confinement and a possible $10,000 fine. No arrests were made during Monday’s event, and Loving remains at large. Fisher County Sheriff Simon Wade did not respond to our inquiries and no further information has been provided.
