FISHER COUNTY SHERIFF Simon Wade (R)

Body

Q1: What do you feel is the most important role as Fisher County Sheriff?

As your Sheriff, the most important role is to have the trust and confidence of our residents.

People are frustrated with many different aspects of our government. Many feel our government is falling short, and it's clear that politicians and the media have contributed to a decline in trust among many Americans. Politicians have lied to you, recklessly spent your Tax money and ignored your pleas for accountability and help. We love our small town atmosphere, we attend church together, shop at the local stores supporting our neighbors, and enjoy helping each other out in a time of need. I want the residents of Fisher County to know that when you reach out to me, Simon, I will be there for you. I am committed to approaching every situation with fairness and always prioritizing the best interests of our community. I graduated high school early, Joined the Marine Corps with my parents consent at the age of 17 and swore an oath to uphold our Constitution.

I retired from the Marine Corps as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CWO3) I was an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Officer. I served as a Detective in EOD/SWAT for the Arizona State Troopers, and spent years traveling the world with the State Department as an Anti Terrorism instructor, and Private Military Contractor.

After my appointment as Sheriff on July 10, 2023 it was extremely embarrassing for me as your Sheriff to engage in a battle of rumors and false accusations while in office. I ask for your forgiveness and understanding My wife and I chose to move to Fisher County for its tranquility, the genuine spirit of Texans, and the strong sense of community. I aspire to be a valuable asset to this community as your Sheriff. I will protect you, as the senior Law Enforcement official in the County, I will stand in the way of those that decide to come here with bad intentions. I will never abuse your trust, and I will never lose focus on my responsibilities to you.

With over 20 years of federal service, I bring a lifetime of dedication and experience that exceeds the minimum requirements outlined in the Senate bill for Sheriff.

I am committed to utilizing my experience and skills to serve and protect our community effectively.

Q2: How do you plan to work with county commissioners and judge to find a solution to reopen the county jail?

I plan to collaborate with County commissioners and the judge to develop a manageable budget that will facilitate the reopening of the county jail. My role is to present a viable plan that serves our community effectively.

A county jail is not a revenue-generating entity; rather, it represents an expense for taxpayers, making effective management essential. Residents expect the facility to be well-maintained and the budget to be managed responsibly.

Previously, I secured a contract with the Lubbock County Sheriff, allowing us to accommodate up to 20 trustee inmates at a rate of $60 per night, generating nearly $28,000 monthly. These trustee inmates not only contribute financially but also assist with community tasks, such as litter pickup along highways, tree maintenance, cemetery care, and illegal dumping in rural areas where cleanup resources are limited to a Commissioner.

Q3: In your view, what role should the sheriff’s department play in collaborating with other local agencies (such as city officials, schools, or community organizations) to tackle broader issues like public safety, mental health, and drug prevention?

As your Sheriff, I believe it is detrimental for the Sheriff's Department to collaborate closely with local agencies, including city officials and community organizations, to address broader issues such as public safety, mental health, and drug prevention.

It is crucial for me, as Sheriff, to maintain constant communication with city officials and ensure my deputies are actively engaged with schools to protect our children.

Understanding the goals and needs of fellow elected officials and community leaders is vital for effective decision making.

In today's challenging environment, we must work together to create a safer community.

Division will not resolve our issues; instead, unity and cooperation will foster a strong community.

I firmly believe that with collective efforts and a shared commitment, we can overcome challenges and ensure the safety and well-being of our residents. I am committed to listening to citizens, acknowledging their frustrations, and actively seeking solutions to the issues that affect us all.

Many individuals respond with sarcasm when they hear the phrase 'serve and protect' reflecting a perception that law enforcement has strayed from its core mission. It is essential that we reestablish our commitment to genuinely serve and protect our residents. I have spent my entire life committed to protecting our constitution, so help me God. I intend to serve as your Sheriff for as long as I can, continuity and commitment is essential.

Moreover, I hold a deep conviction that faith and the values instilled by God and Jesus can guide us through these difficult times.
