Since the likelihood of you seeking information contained in your local newspaper while also being so uninformed that you missed 96% of the sun’s face being blocked by the moon, I’d like to say just how cool I thought Monday’s eclipse was. I’m so happy we all survived.

Dr. Texas Ruegg got his first name from his great great grandmother. “The family was moving from Tennessee, traveling by covered wagon,” he says, “and my great great grandmother was born in the back of that wagon right as they crossed the border into Texas. To commemorate that, they named her Nancy Texas Arnett. And so down the family tree I get the Texas name.”

Good morning to all of you this exciting day in history I hope everyone can see it like they want to, so many people came so far to see all of it. Joe and I have been on the road all week, one day we had to go to Abilene for pills. Well used to we could go to Abilene get everything we needed and some we didn't need and get home by 3:00 in the evening, now it's always 5:00 in the evening, we are just getting slow and the traffic is heavy in Abilene. Tuesday we had to go to Sweetwater so by the time we got home another day was gone. Wednesday we went to Rotan and ate lunch with the Methodist girls, and they really outdone themselves this month, it was wonderful girls, thank you all so much for taking time out to make a bunch of some seniors and some not seniors have a wonderful meal, and all the visiting that goes on. Thursday back to Sweetwater to get the pickup checked, updates that Joe's wife does not know how to do, and I'm not the only one!!!!!Ha So Friday came and Joe said, 'Well Carol we've been gone all week, might as well go back to Abilene and get the rest of the stuff we didn't get Monday, we were supposed to stop at Jackson Brothers and get plants, seeds, for the garden, and we got nearly to Anson Monday, and I said 'Joe we forgot to go to Jackson Brothers!!!!' He said, 'Well I'm not turning back now, we will just go another day!!!!' We laughed and said we need some keepers we can't think of everything anymore!!!!! Saturday Joe's son came and spent the day with us and helped Joe, usually he says Carol don't cook, but this time I told him 'Buzz I'm cooking you a good meal, you have to eat out all week long, if he even gets time to eat. So I fixed deer steaks, white gravy, hot biscuits, potatoes and onions in the oven, and a salad. He said, 'Carol this is the best meal I have had in a long time, so when he went home I fixed him two plates to take home with him,for him and Mary Ellen. Both of them in the medical field they are pushed for time, and grab what they can. While he was here helping Joe I finally got to paint. Remember I said I was not painting another quilt, well I'm eating my words got some greats that would love one, even though they are big kids they love them, so great grandma is getting them ready for Christmas!!!!!! The other greats at Lubbock have already asked for my recipes so I got recipe cards and I'm giving them recipe boxes full of recipes for Christmas. Maybe starting this early I will get them done by Christmas!!!!!! In the recipe for the paper this week, I am sharing an old recipe, still my favorite when I get pushed for time. My boys along with all their friends loved them, Little League was always a hassle, so the cookies got made and took to the field. Hope you enjoy the old recipe even sometimes the Senior Citizens get them on Dance night, and that reminds me this Saturday night you are all invited to come to Old Glory and dance with all of us, it's not only for Seniors we will welcome all of you. Have a wonderful week

“We care deeply for the creatures that depend on us, expecting nothing, really, and getting so very much from them. Loving them takes courage, because love requires daring.

Attention to detail

Ah, the mentality of the five-year-old who whines to parents that he “really did take a bath” when the smell and dirt under the nails say otherwise. How about the students who wait until 7:56 a.m. to get that math homework done before an 8 a.m. first period class? I confess that sometimes I wash my towels with my cardigan sweaters because, well, I just want to get it over with.

Shameless Frontier Mayor and

A little over a year ago, I found something extraordinary in the archives of the Museum of the West Texas Frontier in Stamford. It was a promotional pamphlet dating to about 1910 with the innocuous title “Swenson Avenue Addition.” It was ostensibly intended to market newly-platted lots in an area north of Stamford’s downtown. In reality, it was one of the most extraordinary pieces of local propaganda I’ve ever read in my life. It starts strong on the cover, with a series of apparent slogans from the first decade of Stamford’s history: It starts strong on the cover, with a series of apparent slogans from the first decade of Stamford’s history: 1. The Paved City of the West 2. The City of Roses 3. The Metropolis of the West 4. The Railroad Center of West Texas

CRITICAL THINKING...

Officials at Rotan ISD set a respectfully high bar earlier this week, as they are the first entity or organization that voluntarily opened themselves to largescale public criticism. It takes courage to engage in internal reflection.

Good morning this beautiful morning in Aspermont, Texas, my favorite time of the year, the flowers are beginning to bloom everywhere, we have had showers of rain, God is good!!!!!! We had a bunch of ladies singing at the nursing home Tuesday , thank you for all to come help us, the residents love us. It was good to see do many of them enjoying the singing and good many of them helped us sing. I always get such a joy out of those you say, 'I don't need a book, and they sing with us from memory of the good old gospel songs they grew up with. Joe has been mowing again this week. I told him I think he is enjoying his zero turn lawn mower so much he just loves to mow!!!!!
