ACTS OF KINDESS

Students at Aspermont ISD received several cases of water on Tuesday, easing the burden on families that are now being asked to send water from home with students. When hearing that students no longer have access to water fountains due to public health concerns, Aspermont resident, Elsie Castaneda, asked Lawrence Bros IGA for donations on the school’s behalf.

As a caseworker for the Double Mountain Outreach Center, Castaneda thought about how busy people’s lives are during and already challenging time. “I didn’t want anybody to not have access to a bottle of water if they forget to bring theirs from home,” sand Castaneda.

With kids in high school and grandchildren in elementary, Castaneda spoke with school officials and managers with Lawrence Bros IGA, working out an arrangement for the school district to accept the donation. Educational institutions are often how communities, especially small communities are measured.

“There is nothing more important to us than our rural school districts,” said Lawrence Bros Owner Kyle Lawrence.

20 cases of water was delivered earlier this week to smiling — albeit covered — faces. “I thought the worst thing they could say was ‘no,’” said Castaneda. “It was just an awesome thing the store did for our kids.”
