I’m taking a slightly abstract turn today, so buckle in. I am going to get philosophical with you, but I’m not merely pondering big words for the sake of it. There’s a method to the madness, at least this time. Today, I want to introduce the idea of “subsidiarity” with you.

The past week a mother sat vigil for her 36-year-old son, an unfortunate victim of sepsis that invaded his body while receiving cancer treatment. Much like a hired assassin, it did its dirty work, packed up, and left behind a broken-hearted family. Death does win. Death does sting.
