Though the doors closed, the Panther pride lives on as alumni gather every year to celebrate the memories that never fade.
Calling all Hobbs Panthers! It’s that time again—Hobbs School Homecoming is just around the corner! Though the beloved school closed its doors in 1991, the Panther spirit is still alive and well, as alumni from all over gather to reminisce, reconnect, and relive the good ol' days.
Homecoming will take place on the old campus, located at 1317 FM 1614, Rotan, TX, on October 19th. The Campus, now privately owned by Howard and Judy Gordon, still holds all those cherished memories. Every year, alumni come together to enjoy a catered meal, swap stories, and celebrate the history of Hobbs Consolidated School District. Whether you were there when enrollment was booming in the 1940s or in the school’s final days in the '80s, there’s always a story to tell!
A Little Hobbs History
Did you know the first Hobbs school wasn’t even called Hobbs? Back in 1887, classes were held in a tent on Buffalo Creek! Eventually, the community grew, and by 1925, Hobbs Consolidated School opened its doors, uniting schools from all over the area, including Guinn, Claytonville, and Chicken Foot (yes, Chicken Foot). The campus expanded through the years, even seeing a new cafeteria in 1969! Despite closing, Hobbs School remains a key piece of Fisher County’s rich history.
Feast Like a Panther!
What’s a homecoming without a good meal? Lunch will be catered by Josh Helms of Rough Creek Catering, featuring his famous BBQ spread. Get ready to dig into three meats, traditional sides, and dessert—true Texas style! It’s a meal that’ll make you feel right at home, just like the old Hobbs days.
