Cecil J. King, 87, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021, in Roby, Texas. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at Roby Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.

Born August 4, 1933, in the Ackerly Community, Cecil was the son of the late Charlie and Madge (Ayres) King. He moved to Roby in December of 1945. Cecil was in the Sixth Grade and worked in cotton patches after school and on Saturdays until he got into high school and got a job at Young’s Food Market on Saturdays. Cecil graduated from Roby High School in 1952. At the age of eighteen he was drafted into the Army. After spending eighteen months in Germany, he returned home to Roby in 1955. Cecil started working for Citizens State Bank as a bookkeeper. He became assistant cashier in1957, and shortly thereafter became a member of the board of directors. Cecil became Executive Vice President of the bank in 1958 and served in that capacity until February of 1983, at which time he became President and majority stockholder of the bank. He retired in 1995.

Cecil met the love of his life, Barbara Steger in 1957. The happy couple was married on February 8, 1958. They had three children, Cindy, Kathy and Joel. Cecil and Barbara spent the next fifty-nine years together. His sweet wife Barbara passed away on October 30, 2017.

Cecil was a member if the Church of Christ where he led singing for several years. He loved spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed by many.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include three children; Cindy Grannan, Kathy Terry (Tony), and Joel King (Kristi), grandchildren; April Grannan, Ashley Grannan, Robin Grannan, Brandon Grannan, Tyson Terry (Paige), Cecille Terry Faglie (Neal), Logan Spurgin (Marcus), Kylar King, Kayce King, Karsyn King, Kasey Williamson (Caitlin), Josh Williamson, great grandchildren; Kiersten Grannan, Jaron Qualset, Jace Qualset, Makayla Bradley, Trae Bradley, Besty Terry, Jacquelyn Terry, Pearl Terry, Charli Spurgin, Macklen Spurgin, Lochlen Spurgin, Fallan Faglie, Rowan Faglie, Hazel Mari King, Ryker Williamson, and Riggs Williamson, two brothers; Billy King and C.F. King, and many nieces and nephews.
