Members take a trip to Cary's Military Museum

Members of the Fisher County Historical Commission enjoyed a field trip to Britt Cary's little museum at Sylvester. Cary's collection of military memorabilia was fascinating. Cary is a born storyteller and very knowledgeable, entertaining the group with information and stories about his unique finds. If you'd like to visit Cary and see these treasures, drop by or call.

'Obviously we wanted to win, but ...it was more about the memories we were about to make and the mark we wanted to leave on Roby' CHASITY BENSON, ROBY CISD SENIOR 2024 For the second year in a row, the Lady Lions returned from Austin with the state championship, with the only competitor on the boys' side also earning a silver medal. Each of the four seniors set new school records in track and field this year.

Aspermont ISD Board Election Ends in Favor of Familiar Faces:

With a contested race between three candidates for Aspermont AIS Board of Trustees leading up to the May 4 Election, after ballots were tallied, voters elected to allow incumbents to retain their seats for another term. Aspermont ISD was the only taxing entity to host an election during the May Uniform Election cycle that began early voting late last and ended on Saturday.

What a terrible storm we had last night, should say all night. The first cloud came from the South East with high wind and lot of hail. Then a little later we had another from the North East and it had a lot of hail and hard wind, plus a hard rain. Water was running through my yard like a river. I sure hope we have no more of that. It is such a problem to get everything repaired.

Good Grades Pay at Roby CISD

Roby, Tx- Seventeen Roby High School students made the All A Honor Roll in the 5th six weeks of the 2023-2024 school year, and Texas National Bank continued with its commitment to recognize and award one lucky scholar from each grade with $50. The winners of the Texas National Bank Good Grades Pay Award for the 5th six weeks of the 2023-2024 school year were Abigail Carlile-Freshman, Sara Baily- Sophomore, Carly Jimenez- Junior, Dawson Shipp- Senior. Congratulations to those who made all A’s during the six-week period, and to the Good Grades Pay winners. Texas National Bank wants to remind students to apply themselves, set goals, and study hard, because Good Grades Pay!

Demand for meat goats continues to grow

The nuances of the meat goat market make numbers harder to track compared to other livestock, but demand definitely continues to rise, according to a Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service expert. Jake Thorne, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension sheep and goat specialist, San Angelo, said meat goats are a specialty item and not marketed via traditional livestock producer-to-consumer logistical chains.

100th Quail Appreciation Day set for May 17th

A historic “Quail Appreciation Day” will be held at the Rolling Plains Quail Research Ranch in Fisher County on Friday, May 17 from 9 am to 3:30 pm. The Rolling Plains Quail Research Ranch is located 19 miles east of Snyder, or 10 miles west of Roby, on US Hwy 180.
