Rain sparks insect pressure in crops

Rainfall has benefitted many crops statewide, but the moisture also serves as a catalyst for insects and pests, according to Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service experts.Farmers across Texas continue to scout fields for signs of pests and damage to crops as the prime growing season begins.

Local Masons Honor Excellence with Scholarships for AISD Seniors

On Wednesday, April 23rd, the Masonic Lodge of Aspermont presented scholarships to five outstanding seniors from Aspermont ISD. This is always one of the great pleasures of being part of a group such as the Masons in being able to recognize others for their accomplishments.
Daniel Perales, a 2025 graduate of Rotan High School, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Fisher County Farm Bureau. This scholarship recognizes his academic achievements and commitment to the agricultural community.

The Fisher County Hospital District Board of Directors received encouraging news during its May 27 meeting, as auditors confirmed the district’s financial standing remains amid widespread economic challenges and the loss of federal pandemic relief funds.

Although addressing several actionable items during the May 20th meeting, Aspermont City Administrator Lorenzo Calamaco also raised an issue for consideration, proposing the idea of setting scheduled days for public access to the City’s Convenience Center.

Texas A&M Forest Service offers costshare assistance to help Texas landowners stop the spread of oak wilt through the Texas Oak Wilt Suppression Program. Oak wilt is one of the most destructive tree diseases in the U.S. It is killing oak trees in Central and West Texas at epidemic proportions.
