As Students Return to Sports, Sportsmanship and Respect Must Be Emphasized

Every now and then, an event occurs that serves as a wake-up call and reminds us that we have some work left to accomplish. We are aware of two such events recently that were rather disturbing, and the issues behind those events need our full attention.

Texas to get 1.4 million COVID vaccine doses

Texas is ready to distribute 1.4 million doses as soon as the COVID-19 vaccine receives federal government approval. Gov. Greg Abbott said the vaccines should be arriving the week of Dec. 14 and would be distributed to qualifying providers.

Oh Gosh it's cold outside. We have had some cold weather this week and I guess it's about time. But that don't mean that I have to like it. I just don't like cold weather. There is not much going on since everyone is suppose to stay at home unless you have to work outside of your home.

Author promotes award-winning novel about Double Mountain area

Award-winning, historical fiction novelist Irene Sandell is promoting her most recent work in the rugged and remote parts of Texas where the characters in her novel live out their adventures, including those around the Double Mountains.

2 Cents Worth

Beautiful cold day in Aspermont, Texas, this morning, the sunrise was gorgeous, since the time change I can see the sunrise!!!!!!! It sure gets dark at night quick, but I told Joe I'm glad we don't live in Kentucky this time of the year at 4:30 it's dark in Kentucky, sure makes a long night!!!!!

Putting Polka Music into Space

“I play a squeeze box and grew up with Polka music, mainly Czech and German style”, says Gene Hackemack of McQueeney. For a few years he had a restaurant in New Ulm and entertained customers by strolling around with his accordion. He also played with groups all over central and south Texas.

Feeling Groovy

The opening lyrics to Simon and Garfunkel’s hit song, Feeling Groovy, are “Slow down, you move too fast.” Lately, I’ve found this to be sound advice. Arlene and I built three homes and an office building in our life together.
