Golden Spread Electric Coop Gives Back to Volunteer Fire Departments

The Community Involvement Committee (CIC) of Golden Spread Electric Cooperative, Inc. and Big Country Electric Cooperative are giving back to local communities with a donation of $7,200 to 16 volunteer fire departments, including the Albany VFD. A check presentation took place on March 24, 2023.

Fisher County Commissioners met in executive session last week, discussing a request that the county cover Commissioner Martin’s legal expenses in preparation for defense against the State’s recently dismissed civil petition to remove him from office.

Aspermont dedicates unused funds to aid cleanup

The Aspermont City Council met on Tuesday, where after an update of current cleanup operations, the council approved closing financial accounts that were no longer being used for their original purpose and consolidating the remaining balance into the city’s citywide cleanup fund.

After recovering from reverse sticker-shock at the considerably lower-than-expected bid for addressing foundation issues at the county’s activity center/library, the Stonewall Commissioner unanimously agreed last week to move forward with repair work.

Eighteen members and guests met Tuesday, April 4th, at the Fisher County Historical Commission to hear Dana Fauntrapp from Western Texas College present 'Earthquakes in Our Area'. Dana received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology from Texas Tech and now teaches in Snyder.

Row crop farmers need rain to start summer crop season

Texas row crop farmers in large swaths of the state are facing a suite of problems related to Mother Nature, according to Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service experts. While all problems relate to the lack of rainfall over the past two years, concerns are compounding as the summer season begins.

Cub Scouts Receive Merit Badge Awards

Saturday, May 1st, Fisher County Cub Scout Pack 175 participated in an awards ceremony at The Hub where they meet weekly Tuesdays at 6:30 P.M. Pack Leader, Cindy Hamlin, coordinated the event with Den Leaders Hailey Gatewood, Gwen Rutledge and Patrick Buckner.
