Governor Greg Abbott’s Sunday night announcement came not from the State Capitol or a Texas small town, but from a backdrop overlooking the Houston skyline. “Let’s Roll,” the campaign banner read — a slogan built for a national audience, not for the communities that make this state work.

Praise the Lord, we got such a nice rain and it fell so wonderful it all went in the dry earth that needed it so badly. It is really hard to believe that it is the last week in October and still spring weather.

Letters to the editor

(October 17th Editorial Printing What They Don’t Approve) concerned current press restrictions, in reporting “truth” within the walls of the Pentagon. There were references to “uncomfortable truths”, “unwelcome truths”, the power of truth, and reporting “for the sake of truth”. I agree completely.

I love this kind of weather, so nice and cool in the mornings. It does get pretty warm in the late afternoon, but that’s alright, the days are getting so short it does not last long.We did get a very light shower on Monday and a little more on Saturday morning and it was so wonderful.

Temperatures are dropping, albeit slower than I would like. My favorite colors are on full display in store fronts, on clothes, as well as on food, leaves, and eye shadow.And then there’s baseball.
