Good morning from Joe and I in Aspermont, Texas, it's a cold pretty morning in Aspermont, but we got another shower of rain, isn't that wonderful!!!!! We can always use the rain, as my son Jay, says let it rain that is giving all of us a good under ground season.

It would be a disservice to romanticize my recent train trip, one which took me to Virginia and then to North Carolina and then back to Slidell, Louisiana. The fact that the trip was not luxurious or at times convenient does not minimize the advantages of traveling by rail.

Wow! I was beginning to think there would be no column this week, but everything finally started working in Aspermont, who knows what happened, for awhile this morning I didn't have a phone, I pad, or a TV much less a computer. Sure hope that's not something that is going to happen every day.

I’m gonna recycle a few things this new year. I’ll reuse my car, now with over 210,000 miles on it. My clothes and shoes still fit, so there’s little need to add to the wardrobe as I have no grand openings, awards shows, or premiers to attend Same friends. Same job responsibilities.

In Favor of the Solstice

This time of year, darkness feels inescapable. Daylight is at its most scarce. Darkness lingers well after the kids rise for school and it returns long before bedtime, even in a fairly tame latitude like Stamford. My friends who live farther north are used to dealing with mid-afternoon darkness.
