Texas pecan growers are preparing for the 2025 harvest season with a crop outlook that reflects the state’s diversity in weather and geography, according to a Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service expert.Monte Nesbitt, Ph.D.
The 2024 Texas Fish Art Contest first place winner Luke Zhang of Katy for grades 4-6 pictured above. The Texas Fish Art Contest is part of a conservation education program designed to interest youth in fishing by encouraging K-12 students to submit original artwork of any officially designated state fish and an essay or poem about the participant’s fish entry, its habitat or efforts to conserve it.

Senate Bill 15 did not pass during the 2025 legislative session. The proposal focused on how law enforcement agencies in Texas handle complaints against officers. It would have required every agency to keep certain complaint records in a confidential file, often called a G file.

The Fisher County grand jury indicted Curtis Clay Huitt last week on multiple felony counts stemming from a late-night confrontation in Rotan on July 15–16, where, according to court filings, he fired an assault rifle at deputies responding to a call for service.
