The Double Mountain Chronicle welcomes Letters to the Editor for possible publication in the newspaper. A Letter to the Editor must be original, signed by the writer, and include the address and phone number of the writer. Only the name of the writer and the city will be published with the letter.

You’ve probably noticed that over the last year-ish, my writing has begun to arc away from specific ideas about rural revitalization and instead towards more towards concepts about how we live as humans. There’s a reason for that.

In the mid-1990s, I taught Correlated Language Arts, which was basically for students who did not, at the time, think they wanted to go to college. These small classes (at the most I had eight or nine students) had a textbook curriculum which was modified.

Faces & Places

'A tree is alive; thus, it is always more than you see. Roots to leaves, yes—those you can, in part, see. But it is more—it is the lichens and moss and ferns that grow on its bark, the life too small to see that lives among its roots, a community we know of, but do not think on.

My Plea II

Lord, help me to be more obedient to your word. Lord, help me to love the unlovable. Lord, help me to not give up even when things seem impossible to me. Lord, help me to open my eyes to see the needs of others around me, and use the gift you blessed me with to serve them.

Abbott ties voucher passage to teacher pay, school funding

Gov. Greg Abbott, just hours after the Senate initially approved a school voucher measure, said he would add teacher raises and increased public school funding to the ongoing special session agenda if the Texas Legislature passes his voucher plan, the Texas Tribune reported.

I bet everyone is enjoying the cooler weather like we are. The rains were so wonderful and the cool weather made it all so nice. It was time to do away with those hot, hot days. I think folks have more energy and feel better when it is not so hot like we had in Aug and Sept.

Oh my, the days are really getting shorter, and the nights are really getting longer. School days are going well and football and volleyball are really getting good. If we get the rain that has been promised we will be getting some wheat planted real soon.
